Katy Climbs for Mastering Mountains
Kia ora, I’m Katy Glenie. I’m a mountain climber, a sustainability advocate, a business-owner, and a mum. Two years ago I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
With the support of Mastering Mountains I am so happy to be back in the snow and climbing peaks again. In November I plan to climb the Minarets - a 3,000m peak in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. I will be climbing with my husband, while my 4-year-old daughter cheers me on from afar in my home town of Taupō.
I have been training for over a year to complete this climb. This has included the support of a specialist MS physio to help manage my MS symptoms. It has also included LOTS of encouragement from Mastering Mountains Trust, friends and family to help me get stronger, fitter, and change my mindset around my new ‘MS’ abilities.
There are many things that need to happen for me to achieve my goal. The weather and snow conditions need to be right, my MS symptoms need to be under control, my town (and the town I’m travelling to) need to be COVID safe. Oh, and I need to book a babysitter (Mum’s stuck in the Auckland lockdown).
So cross your fingers and toes for me, this is going to be a huge adventure!
