Kia ora, I’m Steph, and I am walking 100 kilometres this June to raise money so that other people with neurological conditions, like me, can achieve their dreams outdoors with Mastering Mountains.

Last year, I received the Expedition Grant from Mastering Mountains, a charity that supports people with MS and other neurological conditions to achieve a goal in the outdoors.

This year, I achieved a long-held dream of walking the Milford Track. The experience changed the way I view the future. Mastering Mountains has helped me accept and open up about my diagnosis, showing me that setbacks aren’t the end but part of the journey - and that I can still embrace adventure in my own way.

For many people living with a neurological disorder, a life of adventure in the outdoors can feel far from reach. It certainly did for me. That’s why Mastering Mountains assists everyday people achieve their adventure dreams and experience hope, connection and positive, life-long change along the way.

Mastering Mountains offers an individualised rehabilitation service that helps people navigate the challenges they face and achieve their dream adventure. Based on a person’s goals, our programme participants typically receive up to $2,150 of specialist rehabilitation support, $1,550 of outdoor gear or equipment, and $3,100 worth of mentoring services, for a total package valued at roughly $6,800.

The charity is small and receives no Government support, so it relies 100% on donations. Recently, some key funders have sadly withdrawn their support due to the current financial downturn.

Mastering Mountains is now at risk of no longer being able to support people like me.

I’d love your help to ensure Mastering Mountains can continue – I have benefited so much from it, and I want to make sure others can too.
